Brief History:
I have always had an interest in cultures of the world and their music. Even by the age of five I was determined to make music with some kind of worldwide feeling. I never really set out to make music for a specific audience or anything like that. The "Spirit Force" music is much more than "Native American" I think it just worked out that way in the U.S.due to the cross over nature and significant rhythms in the music. In reality it's a collection of rare instruments whose origin dates back thousands of years. I prefer to think of it as "One World Music". People in other parts of the world hear it and say that it is really cool, deep and metaphysical so that's more like it with me. I think they actually see it for what it really is.Recording & Instruments: It's been a real experience creating and working with all these instruments. The instruments really are everything ! They have so much depth in them, but how do you express that to people? People hear the music and see the artist. For me playing the music is about the instruments and that's about it. I have no real interest in anything but the instruments. I guess that's why the music delivers such a profound interesting mystical feeling. It's hard thinking about anything else other than trying hard to capture the sound of those instruments. That was difficult ! The Flutes, Drums and Percussion are all "acoustical instruments". Each instrument has it's own unique sound and recording each one had to be set up differently, not like in a recording studio where everything plugs in and away you go. Not these instruments. That was a challenge. Each one had to be set up and tested before recording. I would start recording, listen, change things around and start again. When I thought I was on target then I would stay up as long as it took to get it all when the mood was perfect and not change a thing. I knew if I stopped at any point it would be lost. So that whole process was really long hours and a tremendous challenge.
Time Frames: From conception to end each album took the better part of a year after I had acquired all the instruments, background samples, wildlife sounds etc. The actual conception of each album was no real problems. Because this was a solo recording project I had to do it all, 1 track, 1 instrument at a time. I could hear the music in my head but had to work it all out step by step. When a song finally got it's structure, rhythms & instrumentation down I could see it taking shape and that was the real something just listening to the final mix of each song. That moment is the whole story.
About the Music Now: The music is truly on it's own path, slowly winding and weaving itself into peoples hearts wherever that may be. A few years back this project was picked up by a few distribution companies who integrated it into their catalog so in reality we have no idea who carries it and who doesn't. We just try move it along it's path. Since this type of music is not pop music it is not carried by the mainstream media but it has survived on it's own longer than 80% of most pop music titles. That makes it timeless and it is discovered by people everyday somewhere, somehow which gives it a sole of it's own.
Featured Movies, Radio, Etc: Tracks from all of the albums have been on various tv shows, radio stations, internet radio, airports, theme parks, and recently was featured on The History Channel's "Untold Story" The Battle Of The Little Bighorn. (Many thanks to Lou Reda Productions for selecting this music for your two hour special.
Will there be more albums: We plan on coming out with more music when the time is right.
In closing: I really hope if you hear this music and get it you will have it for a long time because this music never gets old. It's really more than music it is "Spirit Force"
